A trip north...

We headed north to Ft. Collins yesterday.

Which meant lots of car time, but since the boys slept most of the way there and back, Julian and I got a little mini-vacation to chat, listen to NPR, or just enjoy the silence.

We made a stop at a very special place...

picture is from google...and a greener season.
We stopped at the hospital where Eli was born almost exactly a year ago.
We took two dozen cookies (Eileens!!) to the nurses and doctors who helped us welcome our little boy and also picked up his keepsake birth certificate which was missing.

It was definitely emotional to be back in those halls where we walked and walked and anticipated our new baby. The nurse that helped me through labor was there yesterday, it was nice to be able to thank her again in person for getting me through a very painful hour of natural labor (thankfully it was only one hour!). The nurse that helped us the first day of Eli's life was also there. I remember her giving him his first bath, and she remembered both Eli and Max. She made a big fuss about how big and cute they are, which is always nice for a proud mama to hear.

Here we are in front of room 5101.
The room where we first got to take in those pouty lips and deep brown eyes. This is also where he slept a solid 4 hours his first night before we finally woke him up to nurse. Both happy and sad tears were shed here, we also had a little scare when he failed his first hearing test (it was later deemed operator error and he passed with flying colors 12 hours later). I just remember holding him, that little peaceful gentle soul, and telling him I would love him through anything, that he would have a beautiful life with or without sound... but I hoped he could hear my words.
Thankfully he did.

It was good to be back in this space one week before his first birthday.
It was definitely a reminder of what a miracle he is...every single baby is,

Our next stop was Evie's 2nd birthday party!!
We sent the boys in carrying pink roses for Genevieve, little gentleman in training.

Natalie put together an adorable owl party, the food was amazing, and we had such a good time catching up with their families and friends.

The boys love to visit Evie's house!
After we had a delicious lunch out on the deck, it was cake time!

Evie took her time blowing out the candle, she must have had a special wish!

Max came to stand near the highchair and watch Evie eat her cake, which made me laugh because he did exactly the same thing at her first birthday party last year.

2013
2012
the family of three, soon to be four!
Next up was presents, which can be interesting with a two year old, but Evie did a great job.

I made these hats for Evie and her baby doll. This sort of stuff is seriously better left to the professionals (Nicole! Ish!), for the second year in a row I made a hat that is a wee bit snug, sorry Evie!
Thankfully the baby doll hat fit :)

As Evie opened presents, she wanted to put them right to use, so here she is giving one of her babies a bottle with the owl hat on. It was so sweet to see. She named one of her favorite babies, "Baby Max",  how funny is that? And yes, it is a girl.

checking out the new farmhouse

It soon become apparent that nap time was approaching.

Here is Evie with Jared's parents. Kimra is a dear friend, we did a Bible study together my senior year of high school, those meetings will forever be precious to me.
Our family, getting ready to head home.
We love our visits to Ft. Collins, and it is always a little bit sad to head home from there.
Happy 2nd birthday Evie!!
----------

After our trip to Ft. Collins, combined with our crazy trip to the zoo on Friday (post coming about that soon), we were all deliriously tired (happy tired) last night.
As I listened to the boys laugh and laugh over a game Daddy made up called "Pajama Jammies".
It struck me right in the heart how very blessed we are.
Signing off with a grateful heart.
