Baby girl turned one month old about a week and a half ago.
Here are a few notes and observations as we get to know her...
She has the fluffiest hair.
It often sticks straight up and rarely lays down.
All of our kids are showered with nicknames in the first few months.
So far, we call her: Lucy, Lou, Lulu, Lululemon, Lucy-Goosey, Ms. Goose, and most often (and most affectionately) just Goose.
Who does she look like?
We see a little bit of Max, a little bit of me, some features that resemble Julian's mom...but mostly she just has her own unique look so far.
At her one month appointment she was just over 9 lbs and about 22 inches long. I think she was around 85% for height and 50% for weight, so she measures long and lean, which is similar to her brothers. She is our smallest baby by far though, which is allowing us to get some use out of her newborn and 3-month sized clothing.
Her head measured in at > 97% so she has the same big head too!
She reminds us of the princess from "The Princess and The Pea".
She fusses the second her diaper is wet (whereas the boys never seemed bothered by their diapers, I just changed them every 2-3 hours).
She clearly has a favorite blanket and has communicated this to us, we've already run out to grab a back up!
She only accepts pacifiers from Daddy, and spits them out if Mommy can be seen or heard.
Her little demands make us smile.
All of that being said, she doesn't cry much...assuming she has a dry diaper and is wrapped in her favorite blanket, of course.
Her eyes still have enough blue in them to keep us wondering if maybe just maybe she'll be our blue-eyed baby.
So far, she definitely seems to be the fairest of the three.
Max is a tender hearted big brother.
When we explained her umbilical stump to him he said, "it's like the stem on my apple!"
When she has playtime on her mat, he sits right next to her, constantly re-winding the little wind up music player (he takes this job so seriously, never letting the music lapse).
As Julian walked with her one evening, I saw Max trailing behind playing "Lucy's lullaby " on the iPad (actually called "I Gave My Love A Cherry" by Laurie Berkner, but that's what Max calls it).
Be still my heart.
Eli loves his little sister.
He's showing some signs of growing pains too.
He wants to be carried more, and lately he's been saying "me so little".
He runs to check on Lucy first when I pick him up from school, though, and he offers to share his stuffed animals with her (even his red panda and Indy dog).
It's hard transitioning from little brother to big, but we look forward to watching their relationship blossom.
She has Daddy wrapped around her little fingers.
That's all there is to say.
I'm her favorite place to be.
I'm sure nursing has something to do with it.
She nurses at least every hour or two, I don't really keep track since we're almost always together.
But even when she's not hungry, my arms are her favorite place to be and I just soak it up.
Our pediatrician says "you can't spoil a baby" and we run with it.
Around the one month mark she started smiling the sweetest smile.
She's getting better at her holding head up and enjoys hitting the birdies on her mobile (Daddy's favorite thing for her to do).
We love this little blessing and look forward to what the next month will bring...
